In a significant effort to empower young girls and address key health issues, Amar Ujala Foundation hosted the Aparajita initiative at Laurel Public Senior Secondary School in Gandhi Nagar, Kullu. The session was graced by Dr. Shabreet, a renowned psychologist from the De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center, who served as the chief guest and principal speaker.

Addressing an attentive audience of young students, Dr. Shabreet shared valuable insights on a range of topics critical to adolescent health and well-being. She emphasized the importance of education and focusing on one’s career, especially during the transformative adolescent years. “This time is for study and to focus on your career,” Dr. Shabreet advised, urging students to prioritize their academic and personal growth.

A significant part of the discussion was dedicated to de-stigmatizing menstrual health. Dr. Shabreet encouraged the girls not to feel ashamed about menstruation, describing it as a natural and normal bodily process. “There was a time when you could not discuss this openly, but now times have changed, and you can openly discuss the menstrual cycle,” she explained, highlighting the shifts in societal attitudes towards women’s health.

The psychologist also touched upon the critical issue of mental health, linking it with the overall theme of empowerment. She pointed out that, along with physical health, mental well-being is equally important and must be openly discussed and maintained. Dr. Shabreet strongly cautioned against the use of drugs as a solution to problems, advising the students to stay away from such harmful substances and instead focus on their studies and future aspirations.

The event was highly appreciated by the school’s administration, with Principal Nisha Bodh and Managing Director Er. Rakesh Bodh expressing their gratitude towards Amar Ujala Foundation for organizing such a vital program.

The Aparajita program continues to make strides in advocating for women’s empowerment and health education, creating platforms for open dialogue and support among young women across various communities.
